Quick Reads was launched by Prime Minister Tony Blair on World Book Day 2006 to provide fast-paced, bite-sized books by bestselling writers for emergent readers, anyone who had lost the reading habit or simply wanted a short, fast read.
It was a remarkable collaboration between authors, publishers, book retailers, libraries, the education sector, and other partners and supporters.

World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The origins of the day we now celebrate in the UK and Ireland come from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St. George’s Day – a tradition started over 80 years ago.
World Book Day 2009 in the UK and Ireland will take place on Thursday 5th March*. It is a partnership of publishers, booksellers and interested parties who work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.
As a local charity we do not have the expertise to review all the new books published each year, so this section contains links to other organisations and book lists which already exist.
We hope this is helpful in finding books for your children to read.
We do have some knowledge of what books are being chosen by students in Woking through our reading is Fundamental Scheme and will from time to time recommend books that children really love.
